Education in Liberia was severely affected by the First Liberian Civil War and Second Liberian Civil War, between 1989 and 2003. In light of this, Pro USA has embarked on establishing a vital community/resource center in Monrovia, the capital city of Liberia.
This resource center will provide a variety of educational support and resources, including a library, computer labs, to serve as an educational cornerstone and refuge in this severely underserved area. The resources of this community center will provide individuals and families with opportunities to overcome the education obstacles that plague their community. In pursuit of this project, we have established the following objectives:
- Construct or remodel a building in Monrovia, Liberia to serve as a community/resource center with a vast array of educational resources;
- Collect approximately 50,000 books to constitute a library within the community/resource center;
- Foster computer proficiency by establishing computer labs and instructional support;
- Serve up to approximately 30,000 people per month in Liberia through the variety of education-focused assistance and services of our community center
In the long term, Pro USA, Inc. envisions establishing community/resource centers with libraries in other communities in need throughout the country, in order to combat the education crisis as effectively as possible.
We envision a global community in which all individuals have optimal education and where stigma and other barriers that prevent well-being are eliminated. We embrace the guiding principles of investing for results and outcomes, changing attitudes, building partnerships, committing to quality, and working on a common goal to assure that our target population will not be deprived of their education rights as human beings.
