Monrovia, September 5th, 2008: Mr. Duannah Siryon, the Interim Chairman of a United States based Liberian Not-for-Profit Sports organization is in Liberia from the United States of America.
The visit of Mr. Siryon is aimed at discussing collaborative efforts with several government officials, autonomous agencies and private sectors in an effort to promote sporting programs for the country.
Mr. Siryon will also use his visit to discuss with appropriate agencies a possible project launching ceremony in Liberia this December.
PRO U.S.A is comprised of Liberian sports and non-sports lovers residing in the United States of America who desire to assist the Government of Liberia in its efforts to empower and capacitate the youth of Liberia in identifying and recognizing their potentials through sports.
The objectives of the organizations are:
- To help unify the Liberian people through sports after 14 years of civil conflict
- To help rehabilitate and empower ex-combatants.
- To create an environment in Liberia where Liberians are encouraged and can challenge themselves through sports, develop good moral characters, strive for educational advancement and live with a positive attitude despite cultural or other social orientations.
- To obtain, build and maintain sports academies in Liberia that will help promote all sports disciplines, create recreational activities and compete in the 21st century global sporting arena.
- PRO U.S.A also seeks to unify and strengthen our citizens through education, health and social advancement of our community as well as maintaining physical fitness and living a healthy life.
- To empower the youth of our country to be positive role models for other youths of our country after decades of civic disobedience.
If all goes well as planed, PRO U.S.A is scheduled to have the following calendar of events in December to kickoff the above projects:
- Expanding their efforts by entertaining the people of Bong County, Nimba County and Grand Bassa County in series of three soccer matches on December 19th, 21st and 23rd.
- Possibly engage the Liberian National Team (The Lone Star) in Montserrado County, Liberia on December 25th and 31st respectively.
- Engage the championship Team of the 2008 Liberian National soccer league in Monrovia on December 27th 2008.
- Awards and farewell ceremony
This effort will be the first of it kind to be spearheaded by a Liberian organization based in the United States of America since Dougbor U.S.A during the 1980s.
